Additional info:

Automatic CHANGELOG generation from git metadata(commit message) is state of the art. It 's used in many popular project like angular.
conventional-changelog or conventional-changelog-angular could be used tho achieve that.

We are going to discuss this next thursday. I see your concerns about squashing but the current process is inconvenient for developers.
