General Tips

Brush size

Most tools use the stack size to determine how big of an area that they should change. While mods like JEI make it possible to spawn in more of an item fairly easily, T-Square has a shortcut. Using the scroll-wheel while sneaking allows you to change the stack size of any T-Square tool that uses stack size in its calculations.

Utilities

Reset All Reset All default icon

This tool resets any and all saved T-Square configuration data for the player. To prevent accidental use, it only activates with a sneak-right click.

Move Block Move Block default icon

This tool nudges a block in space for those times when it's not convenient to just break and replace for whatever reason. Activates as follows:

  • Left: Push away from clicked face by 1 block but only to air
  • Right: Pull towards clicked face by 1 block but only to air
  • Sneak-Left: Push away from clicked face by 1 block, overriding the destination block
  • Sneak-Right: Pull towards clicked face by 1 block, overriding the destination block

WARNING: Move Block does not get logged to the undo queue.

Delete Delete default icon

This tool acts as a quick delete for any block not on the global blacklist.

  • Left: Delete one block at a time
  • Right: Delete blocks so long as button is held.

WARNING: Delete does not get logged to the undo queue.

Up Up default icon

This tool nudges places a block stacksize blocks directly over your head for when you need a mid-air target. Up obeys modifiers.

  • Left: Place material only
  • Right: Place complete Blockstate

WARNING: Up does not get logged to the undo queue.

Rotate Block Rotate Block default icon

This tool rotates the clicked block (if it can be rotated), as follows:

  • Left: Rotate based on clicked face
  • Right: Rotate based on face opposite clicked.

Many blocks rotate in a set order regardless of the face clicked.

WARNING: Rotate Block does not get logged to the undo queue.

Block Info Block Info default icon

This tool is used to examine blocks as follows:

  • Left: Examine material
  • Right: Examine block state.

Ruler Ruler default icon

This tool is used to examine the distance between two blocks:

  • Left: Pick first block
  • Right: Pick second block
  • Sneak-Left/Right: Measure

Eye Dropper Eye Dropper default icon

This tool saves either the material or complete block state for use with other tools. Note that a complete block state includes materials. Having a water or lava bucket in your offhand allows you to select water and lava for place/replace. Note that flowing fluids can be finicky. It is generally better to use water bucket offhand replace than set water as your replace material. Use as follows:

  • Left: Select material for placement
  • Right: Select block state for placement
  • Sneak-Left: Select material for replacement
  • Sneak-Right: Select material for replacement

WARNING: It is intentionally possible to apply the blockstate to the wrong material by saving the blockstate first then saving a material then placing a complete blockstate. This does not always work, but sometimes leads to interesting results.

Paintbrush Paintbrush default icon

This tool changes a block to a new material or block state using the saved information from the Eye Dropper or whatever block is in the off-hand. Note that offhand overrides use the block's default state. Offhand overrides may not work with blocks that are placed from a separate item (such as cake item vs cakeblock item). Activations are as follows:

  • Left: Paint material (offhand overrides eye dropper)
  • Right: Paint block state (offhand overrides eye dropper)
  • Sneak-Left: Paint material (eye dropper only)
  • Sneak-Right: Paint block state (eye dropper only)

WARNING: Paintbrush does not get logged to the undo queue.

Color Wheel Color Wheel default icon

This tool tinkers with the block state. It is ideal for working with colored wool or stained clay when you have yellow but want blue. However the results can be somewhat unpredictable, so caution is advised. Activates as follows:

  • Left: Lower the metadata value of the block by one. Wraps from 0 to 15 if the block has a blockstate there.
  • Right: Increase the metadata value of the block by one. Officially wraps from 15 to 0, but many blocks with fewer than 16 blockstates still wrap properly.
  • Sneak-Left: Set the metadata value of the block to 0. This is likely the default blockstate but not always.
  • Sneak-Right: Set the metadata value of the block to 15. If the block does not have a full 16 blockstates, this may not work.

WARNING: Color Wheel does not get logged to the undo queue.

Green Thumb Green Thumb default icon

This tool applies bonemeal to every growable thing within stack size radius of the targeted block upon a right click. Results tend to be better with more clicks of smaller size than of fewer clicks of larger size.

WARNING: Green Thumb does not get logged to the undo queue.

Undo Undo default icon

This tool rolls back the player's most recent use of T-Square (if there is one). To prevent accidental use, it only activates with a sneak-left click. Some tools are not logged to the undo queue, and will have a warning as such in this guide. The undo queue is saved as text files in /config/T-Square/undo. The Undo tool deletes these files after an undo is completed or when the undo is more than an hour old.

Load Area Load Area default icon

This tool forces your client to re-render the targeted chunk on a sneak-left click. Useful when working with lots of very large snipes that may occasionally cause your client to stop rendering changes to a chunk.

Modifiers

Replace Mode Replace Mode: All default icon

This item is placed in the offhand slot in order to tell shape tools which blocks should be replaced. By default, the item spawns in the the all mode, which replaces all blocks in within the shape. Having no item in the offhand slot is equivalent to replace all. The following clicks change the Replace Mode:

  • Left: Material
  • Right: Block State
  • Sneak-Left: Material Exclude
  • Sneak-Right: Block State Exclude

Material (M) Replace Mode: M default icon

This mode replaces all blocks of the selected replace material. For example, if wool is selected, both blue wool and orange wool would be replaced.

Material Exclude (Mx) Replace Mode: M default icon

This mode replaces all blocks EXCEPT the selected replace material. For example, if wool is selected, blue wool would not be changed but spruce logs and air would be.

Block State (S) Replace Mode: S default icon

This mode replaces all blocks of the exact block state selected. For example, if blue wool is selected, blue wool would change, but orange wool would be untouched. Keep in mind that block rotation is part of a block state.

Block State Exclude (Sx) Replace Mode: M default icon

This mode replaces all blocks EXCEPT the exact block state selected. For example, if blue wool is selected, blue wool would not be changed but orange wool and glass would be.

Eraser Eraser: All default icon

Works just like the equivalent Replace Mode modifier, but always places air.

Bucket

Vanilla buckets can be used as a modifier too! Use an empty bucket in your offhand slot to only replace air. Likewise, use a water or lava bucket to only change those fluids. A milk bucket tells T-Square to replace anything that is NOT air.

Axes

If you put any axe (some modded axes that aren't actually called an axe might not work) in your offhand slot, it will delete all log blocks (again, possibly excluding modded logs that aren't called logs in the code) within the tool's area. Great for terraforming

Basic Shapes

These tools only take one click to fire and obey modifiers. Square by Center is explained in detail. Most other basic shapes function the same way, but differ only in shape.

Square by Center Square by Center default icon

This tool places a square with a "radius" (yes, I know squares don't have a radius, but I'll use that word a lot) equal to the tool's stack size, including the center block. So, using a stack of 1 item gets you a 1x1 square, and a stack of 2 items gets you a 3x3 square (where the "radius" is the center block+1block to the edge of the square). The orientation of the square depends on the face of the targeted block. Use is as follows:

  • Left: Place square of material
  • Right: Place square of blockstate
  • Sneak-Left: Place square of material (but offset the center by one block in the direction of clicked face)
  • Sneak-Right: Place square of blockstate (but offset the center by one block in the direction of clicked face)

Circle by Center Circle by Center default icon

Cube by Center Cube by Center default icon

Sphere by Center Sphere by Center default icon

Overlay Overlay default icon

This tool is closely related to the Circle by Center tool, with one major exception - it doesn't necessarily make a solid circle. Overlay finds the first non-air block at an equal or lower height (to a maximum of 10 blocks lower) for each x and z within the circle's radius. The top 1 or 3 (depending on click) in each column get changed. Additionally, the overlay always does a horizontal circle, regardless of face clicked. If you put a sapling in your offhand slot, overlay moves upward rather than downward. This is good for saplings and snowtiles. Use is as follows:

  • Left: Change material of top (not higher than target block) 1 block in each column
  • Right: Change blockstate of top 1 block in each column
  • Sneak-Left: Change material of top 3 blocks in each column
  • Sneak-Right: Change blockstate of top 3 blocks in each column

Fill Down Fill Down default icon

This tool is closely related to the Circle by Center tool, with one major exception - it fills the entire cylinder with that circle as it's top. Additionally, Fill Down always does a horizontal circle, regardless of face clicked. Use is as follows:

  • Left: Change material
  • Right: Change blockstate

WARNING: It is highly recommended to use a modifier with this tool. Empty bucket is particularly useful

Hollow Hollow default icon

This tool selects all blocks on the interior of an object within the spherical region around the target block. This tool works particularly well with the Eraser: All modifier to actually hollow out the interior as the name suggests. Be cautious when using around materials that can fall, such as sand.

  • Left: Place material, target blocks that DO NOT touch air.
  • Right: Place blockstate, target blocks that DO NOT touch air.
  • Sneak-Left: Place material, target blocks that DO NOT touch air, water, or lava.
  • Sneak-Right: Place blockstate, target blocks that DO NOT touch air, water, or lava.

Advanced Shapes

These tools require two or more clicks to activate, but still obey modifiers

Circle (3 Points) Circle (3 Points) default icon

This tool fills the circle that passes through all three user-defined points (assuming the points are non-colinear). The tool works best on the cardinal planes, but can work on any 3 reasonable points.

  • Left: Add point (will delete oldest point to make room for new point if more than 3 selected)
  • Right: Clear points
  • Sneak-Left: Fill region with material
  • Sneak-Right: Fill region with block state

Cuboid (2 Corners) Cuboid (2 Corners) default icon

This tool selects the entire cuboid region between two user-defined points as follows:

  • Left: Select 1st point
  • Right: Select 2nd point
  • Sneak-Left: Fill region with material
  • Sneak-Right: Fill region with block state

Triangle (3 Corners) Triangle (3 Corners) default icon

This tool fills the triangle that has all three user-defined points (assuming the points are non-colinear). The tool works best on the cardinal planes, but can work on any 3 reasonable points.

  • Left: Add point (will delete oldest point to make room for new point if more than 3 selected)
  • Right: Clear points
  • Sneak-Left: Fill region with material
  • Sneak-Right: Fill region with block state

Randomized Shapes

Blob Blob default icon

Some times, you just don't want to see the perfect lines of a cube or a sphere, such as when making a mountain. The Blob tool provides these organic looking...well...blobs. Starting with the targeted block, the block has a chance to "grow" outward one block in every direction determined by a Growth Percent each "turn." The Blob tool goes through just enough growth turns to give your current blob a chance to reach it's maximum radius as determined by item stack size. The illustration below should make this clearer.

Blob mechanics

The higher the Growth percent, the more likely it is the blob will grow. Growth is displayed via the durability bar on your item stack. At 100% growth, the Blob becomes a perfect double pyramid. A growth around 30% is ideal for most uses. At 5% growth, you'll be lucky to get even 2-3 blocks.

Controls are as follows:

  • Left: Fill region with material
  • Right: Fill region with block state
  • Sneak-Left: Lower Growth Percent by 5 (min 5%)
  • Sneak-Right: Raise Growth Percent by 5 (max 100%)

Splatter Sphere Splatter Sphere default icon

Works similar to the Sphere by Center too, but places blocks randomly within the sphere based on a growth percentage. The higher the Growth percent, the more dense the sphere. Growth is displayed via the durability bar on your item stack. A growth around 30% is ideal for most uses. At 5% growth, you'll be lucky to get even 2-3 blocks. The other Splatter tools work in the same fashion, just with different basic shapes. Controls are as follows:

  • Left: Fill region with material
  • Right: Fill region with block state
  • Sneak-Left: Lower Growth Percent by 5 (min 5%)
  • Sneak-Right: Raise Growth Percent by 5 (max 100%)

Terraformers

These tools do not place or replace blocks as the shape tools do. Instead, these tools examine blocks in a region (usually sphere or circle) and make changes based upon what blocks are already there

Blend Sphere Blend Sphere default icon

This tool causes each block in a stack size radius sphere from the targeted block to examine the 26 (including diagonals) neighboring blocks. If any neighboring blockstate occurs more frequently than everything else, the block changes to match that neighbor. Controls are as follows:

  • Left: Air can be the most common block; water can't. (Usually makes things shrink)
  • Right: Neither air nor water can be the most common block. (Usually makes things grow)
  • Sneak-Left: Both air and water can be the most common block.
  • Sneak-Right: Water can be the most common block; air can't.

Note: By default, lava cannot be the most common block, but putting a Lava Bucket in your offhand slot allows it.

Smooth Smooth default icon

This tool causes each block in a stack size radius sphere from the targeted block to examine the 6 (no diagonals) neighboring blocks in order to delete stray blocks and fill small gaps. Controls are as follows:

  • Left: More likely to change blocks. Removes blocks if at least 4 neighbors are air. Fills air if at least 3 of the same material nearby.
  • Right: Recommended setting. Removes blocks if at least 5 neighbors are air. Fills air if at least 4 of the same material nearby.

NOTE: This tool works best when working in areas with very few materials.

Fill Fill default icon

This tool causes each block in a stack size radius sphere from the targeted block to examine the 6 (no diagonals) neighboring blocks in order to fill gaps. Controls are as follows:

  • Left: Fills air if at least 3 of the same material nearby.
  • Right: Fills air if at least 4 of the same material nearby.

NOTE: This tool works best when working in areas with very few materials.

Melt Melt default icon

This tool causes each block in a stack size radius sphere from the targeted block to examine the 6 (no diagonals) neighboring blocks in order to delete unwanted blocks. Controls are as follows:

  • Left: Removes blocks if at least ANY neighbors are air. Terrain appears to move down.
  • Right: Recommended setting. Removes blocks if at least 2 neighbors are air. Terrain appears to move away from user.

NOTE: This tool works best when working in areas with very few materials.

Grow Grow default icon

This tool causes each block in a stack size radius sphere from the targeted block to examine the 6 (no diagonals) neighboring blocks in order to expand existing terrain. Controls are as follows:

  • Left: Fills air if ANY neighbors are blocks. Terrain appears to move up.
  • Right: Recommended setting. Fills air if at least 2 neighbors are the same block. Terrain appears to move toward from user.

NOTE: This tool works best when working in areas with very few materials.
