Feature request: Option to disable automatic search for updates #5501

We don't release new versions that often to annoy anyone, do we? In fact I'd argue we don't release as often... Overall extracting update-related settings to a dedicated group is probably a good thing. I had to look through the code to find where the "check for release candidates" setting was placed. |
While GE has too many options for many users, this is OK for me |
Makes sense. Let's do it then

I wish an option to disable the search for automatic updates. Usually, when I install Git Extensions, I am happy with the installed version and have no need for additional features that may come with the updates. I have already enough applications that want to update.
I have a proposal for the needed UI change in the settings dialog:
I moved the checkbox "Check for release candidate versions" to a new group box named "Updates" and added a new checkbox "Check for updates".
The new checkbox "Check for updates" is checked in default to retain the familiar behavior. Git Extensions searches for updates regularly and presents the user a dialog to offer the update if there is a new version.
If the checkbox "Check for updates" is not checked, Git Extensions shall not search for updates as long as the user does not want it explicitly, via click on "Help", "Check for updates".
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
