The 'd' in open-sourced makes it a bit idiosyncratic. Why not "open source"?

Game add-ons are a nice example of something totally uninteresting to GitHub and unambiguously personal projects but using this example promotes a bit of a negative and possibly male stereotype of developers. Well, it made me roll my eyes.

Also, I wonder whether we should avoid calling out another brand name here.

There's probably something that would work nicely no matter what industry employer is in, but a silly suggestion: "open source mail reading program", a reference to so-called Zawinski's law.

The 'd' can be dropped.

Agreed on the stereotype point. The reference is also kind of dated (I think... at least it has the potential to be if it isn't already).

I like it because it's a bit cheeky (the stereotype actually plays into it) — what else is kind of funny and obviously non-work related?

  • Minecraft mods (still has the brand issue)
  • basket weaver
  • robotic bartender

Something kind of funny and cheeky would be good. "Robotic bartender" seems most of those three, though I'd rather skip alcohol reference as both stereotypical and non-inclusive. Another idea: "open source non-lethal mousetrap simulator".

better mousetraps as a quintessential pursuit of knowledge workers that very few companies have as a line of business
