what is the best way to get these updates that were made?

If you have HACS installed then add it as a custom repository https://hacs.xyz/docs/faq/custom_repositories/
If you don't have HACS then you need to download the content from the custom_components/attribute_as_sensor folder and manually place it/overwrite in config/custom_components/attribute_as_sensor folder
