Formatting in the initializer?

The readme says:

You can define formats in your view file (local to the view) or in the initializer

However, I don't know of such a thing in Rails as "view initializer". So, where exactly is this supposed to be put? I assume this would be the way to apply formatting globally to xlsx files, as opposed to a per-view basis.
