Purpose of Obtainable End

I wrote this for my Skyblock games because I do not like cake. We generally have multiple avenues to obtaining End Stone late in the game (End Sieves and Stone Spatial Harvesters, for example). I like the balance of being able to create my own End portals but only once I have access to both Nether Stars and End Stone. This also allows for non-Skyblock play, because players will not be able to create their own End Portals until somebody has gone to the End the traditional way and brought back some stone.

Most of what this mod does is add convenience features for Survival access to End Portal Frames. Players can place Frames without concern as to orientation; all Frame blocks will be automatically reoriented once the Frame is complete. A new global sound event is added to alert players to creation of a new Frame. Making the Frames breakable in Survival prevents hazing players by placing them in an unbreakable cage of End Portal Frames. The frames do take a fair while to break (like Obsidian). Once the Frames are breakable, another feature is needed (and added) to break the End Portal blocks when a Frame is broken.

As of 1.0.1 and 1.1.1, breaking an End Portal Frame will drop a block of End Stone (as well as any inserted Ender Eye). This way, if a player accidentally breaks an End Portal Frame Piece, it is possible to repair it without visiting The End. The player will need to break three more End Portal Frame pieces (at which point they will have four End Stone blocks), acquire four Ender Eyes, and acquire one Nether Star. Then they will have all the materials for the recipe, which produces four End Portal Frame pieces.

Configuration and Features

The configuration file will be located in the config directory and named obtainable-end.toml.

  • Disable the global portal frame completion sound.
  • Enable End Portal Frame wither immunity.

• Features

  • Add a recipe for End Portal Frame pieces (requires a Nether Star and End Stone).
  • Allow players to break End Portal Frame pieces (slowly, like Obsidian).
  • Break associated End Portal blocks when an End Portal Frame piece is broken.
  • Make End Portal Frames easier to place by correcting orientation when complete.
  • Generate a global sound indicating a new End Portal Frame has been completed.
  • Disable End Portal Frame wither immunity by default (makes wither cages trivial).
