I imagine that everytime you see something for the first time the game stops right there for a few seconds and over the object there is an explainatory text like:
"Oh, this bird pooped. I don't want to get poop in my fur!"
or
"This is a bird, a nice one, it won't hurt me"
or
"These are mice. I like them. I just want to play with them!"
or
"This looks like my home. Bring me there"

The text is in white, kind of handwritten and has an arrow pointing right to the object in question.

What do you think?

I think it may be a good idea to provide some help for the player if he needs it (I'm not sure yet if that's necessary or not). But I don't really like the idea of the game stopping mid-play. At least at the second time you play the game it would get pretty annoying I guess.

I would suggest to either provide just a help page at the start screen or implement it as an opt-in feature that can be toggled on in the start screen.
