Versaload uses a three stage loading process to transfer bytes from an audio tape into computer memory.

Those stages are:

  1. The boot loader
  2. The lead in, incorporating the synchronisation and calibration pulse trains.
  3. The payload. This has a special high speed modulation scheme.
  4. Go to 2, until all data is loaded.
