hi all,

I searched for a long time in all the menus how to change the path of the download directory without finding anything. I went to look on the wiki and read that you have to change environment variables.
I find this a bit complicated as a solution for normal users.

Wouldn't it be possible to add an option for users to change the download directory directly in the software preferences?

Thank you all for your work, I love your software.

I just looked it over and it seems simple. I can work on it in a few days if no one else wants to.

That would be great, I think a lot of users would appreciate it.

Configuring the Download Directory location seems like a really obvious part of Preferences. I hope it becomes available. The default seems to be my C:\Users\Documents\gPodder\Downloads, but my C:\ drive has limited space; I'd rather use another location where space is not a problem. However, on a second PC, the downloads are actually going where I want them, but I don't know how I did that...or why it's working.

I also vote for this enhancement. However, please, make sure that the default still reflects the environmental variables to avoid breaking someones installs upon upgrade. Thank you!

Please implment this. Is really bad UX having to edit ENV vars or Windows registry for such a simple thing...
Also, if you are backing up your 'Documents' folder on Windows, the backup size will increase a lot if you use gPodder with this default setting.
Thanks :)

Implement also for Linux please.

The app primary function is downloading files, yet there is no configuration as to where these files are downloaded. The fact that this wasn't the first preference added to the configuration blows my mind. While I appreciate the portable version, it's really cumbersome to have the media files buried five directories deep.

Worse than not being able to specify it in the first place - you can't change it after the fact.
After moving my data drive from F: to D:, I now have to click OK to acknlowledge that gPodder can't find the file once for every downloaded file, and I can't fix it because the paths to the downloaded files are burried in the database.

@dmillman the full path is NOT embedded in the database: only the folder's name is stored for each podcast. Only the file name is stored for each downloaded episode. So as long as you give gPodder the correct root or download directory it will find them on restart.

Confirmed - thanks for the correction.
