Grantcoin Legacy Code Repository

What is Grantcoin?

Grantcoin (abbreviated GRT), which was launched on May 1, 2015, is the first cryptocurrency distributed primarily as charitable grants according to a transparent plan by a legally incorporated nonprofit organization. Grantcoin's technology is based on Peercoin (PPCoin), an offshoot of Bitcoin. Like Bitcoin, the Grantcoin network is currently powered by SHA-256 Proof-of-Work mining, and does not use Peercoin's Proof-of-Stake system for distributing block rewards. In 2016, the Grantcoin Foundation plans to transition the currency to a new, more egalitarian system for distribution of inflation, which will be developed from the Proof-of-Stake code.

Versions and License

This "legacy" version of Grantcoin is the original codebase, which was replaced in November 2015 by a new version in the Grantcoin official code repository which offers superior features and performance. Both versions are currently functional and compatible with each other. The legacy version is distributed under the MIT/X11 software license. See COPYING file and http://www.opensource.org/licenses/mit-license.php for more information.

Development process

Anyone who would like to join the Grantcoin development team as a volunteer, to help with coding and/or testing and debugging, please contact the Grantcoin Foundation. We are always interested to have more input and assistance to continue developing the Grantcoin code and software.
