I open a file on my MacMini and it does not find any compatible files in the search window. I copy the file to a removable drive and run it on my laptop and it works. Laptop is running 10.7.3, Mini is running 10.7.4, however the problem existed prior to the update.
I have tried to delete metaz and replace it with a new download but it retains all settings, last open folder etc. How can I remove all trace of the program so I can reinstall and get things working.

Presets and queue items are stored in ~/Library/Application\ Support/MetaZ/ and you should be able to just delete that folder if you want to. Preferences are stored in the file ~/Library/Preferences/org.maven-group.MetaZ.plist
Have you checked the preferences on the machine that doesn't work? There are two preferences that might be relevant. One is General -> Search: Enable auto-search which when not checked will require you to manually perform searches using Cmd-F or from the Edit menu. The other possible preferences that might cause your problem is if all the search plugins are disabled. You can check this in the Plug-ins section where it will list all the plugins for searching and writing with a checkbox beside each where you can disable or enable them.
