It appears that XP added through the API will run over the maximum and spill over into the next level until the user manually completes a task that gives XP.

Yup, this is a known issue and is actually an issue with the website not running any level-up code until a manual task is completed.

Theres an issue on the website now but I'll leave this open for sake of visibility. Thanks!
