Hi all. It has been a bit and this conversation has died off.

Colin had suggested that the OpenData effort seemed like a good fit/basis for doing a local CodeForAmerica brigade. I'm tending to agree - the materials and contact sharing they do can help to get more data available, as well as providing some extra legitimacy to data requests.

I signed up for the introduction from CFA for starting a brigade which starts with an online meeting next month. I was thinking of spending effort over the holidays to get what we have cleaned up and presentable and use that as part of a kickoff in January.

John Jusayan has been kicking around the idea of a local iOS group meeting, as well - we were talking about maybe doubling up the two and meeting on a single night once a month to get better participation in both. What do you guys think?

I would do my best to attend. Getting participation is tough going, but I support any of our efforts to do it.

@jeremymurray - I'm down with the CfA proposal. It would be ideal if we had an official brigade.

I'm beginning to think we have too many groups with the people being made up from other groups - it will soon be at the point where our small list of people have to choose which one they want to attend each month. We should talk about this with the PHP, JS, Ruby, iOS, Hacknight, Software Developers Group, etc.

In terms of clean up and kickoff, please let me know what I can do to help.

+1 on worrying about too many groups. I'm beginning to think everyone is
event/Hackthon/grouped out.

I totally get the meetup overload, though I'm on the family side of it where I only get to pick one or two meetups total in a month.

Unfortunately, the Code4America brigade setup basically dictates a monthly meeting of some kind (hack night, whatever). Reading through their materials, it could probably be combined with some other normal get-together as long as it is a regular meetup. It could even be an online thing, supposedly, though I'm not seeing any other groups doing it that way.

I went to two different online meetups for C4A and did talked to a few existing organizers, so I have some idea of what they are looking for. One major thing is that (like YC) they want paired organizers. Anyone else interested in co-heading this?

Becoming a full brigade has some financial benefits, but isn't required. I'm mostly interested in getting some sort of legitimacy for data requests and organizing OpenDataReno to store/redirect to them and after talking with different people, this does seem like a good path for that.

John setup the first meeting for the combined Cocoa user group and C4A for this Tuesday, January 21 from 6-9 at the Collective. My plan is to show up for the NSReno meetup then hang out and do some high-level talking about what Code4America is looking for in a brigade and to see if that's something we're interested in trying here.

Apologies for the late notice. My family has been sick and I wasn't sure if I could make it. It is looking good now.

I'd like to do a more official meeting next month with fliers and such and pull in outside interest.

For now I'm going to limit my participation to work on the OpenDataReno website if needed. RenoTracks is taking the rest of my bandwidth at the moment. I'll continue to get the word out whenever I can of course!

@cyberhobo you spending time on RenoTracks is huge :) maybe someday you guys can present the app and it's impact on the city at a future Reno CFA meeting.

I'm up for helping where I can but not as a co-organizer. I do think we should pull in others and see if there's interest. I would nominate @neazle (or at the very least, Monica, you should attend!) 👍
