In line 242, you don't have a predicate loop so there's a risk of spurious wakeup. I think this might also be related to the following problem.

if(ETIMEDOUT == pthread_cond_wait(&demo_end_cv, &marker_available_mutex)) {

Change to a Predicate Loop.
