How to open

World map preview can be opened by:

  • Open command palette (Ctrl+Shift+P), type command Preview world map, and press enter to confirm.
  • Click button Preview HOI4 file button on tool bar of editor of the opened default.map file.

Map View

  • Left click to select a region, left click same region to deselect.
  • Double click a region to open it in editor (just like "Open file in mod" button).
  • Hold right button and drag to move map.
  • Scroll mouse wheel to zoom map.

Toolbar

View mode

There are different view mode that can be changed on tool bar of world map preview. View mode affects what level of regions are rendered on world map. Valid values are:

  • Province
  • State
  • Strategic Region
  • Supply Area (Removed since HOI4 1.11 or H4MU 0.5.0, you can enable it using option hoi4ModUtilities.enableSupplyArea.)
  • Warnings (provinces will be shown on map)

Color set

Color set affects color rendered on provinces.

Display

Display options that control world map rendering.

  • Show supply - show railway and supply nodes.
  • Mouse highlight - highlight mouse position.
  • Fast rendering - render map in low quality and faster.
  • Adapt zooming - hide border and label when map is small.

Search

Search region by ID. In province view mode, it's province ID. In state view mode, it's state ID. etc.

Warning filter

Warning filter is only visible in warnings view mode. This will affect what types of warnings are shown on map view.

Buttons

  • Refresh - reload whole world map related file from disk.
  • Export as image - export whole world map to a PNG file.
  • Toggle warnings - show/hide warning list, which shows all warnings. Warnings that are not visible on map will be shown here.
  • Open file in mod - it's enabled only when a state, strategic region or supply area is selected. Copy the file, which defined the state, strategic region or supply area, to workspace (if not exist) and open it.
