From announcing the next stops and transfer points to alerting users of potential delays or disruptions, it ensures a smooth transit experience.

The voice-driven assistant will be your travel companion to help you check in and out of public transportation without confusion. This companion will help you track your current travel and provide several route options and delays. Beyond just directions, travelers can inquire about timetables, travel plans, and even local weather and recommendations, all through voice. The Text-to-Speech (TTS) “artificial voice” technology used for the voice “companion” in 9292Hoi is a solution from Dutch multinational ReadSpeaker -- a cutting-edge TTS provider worldwide. The artificial voice technology provides a synthetic, multilingual, and customizable voice assistant to the application.

Moreover, we have also added an optional gamification component to 9292Hoi which will add a new dimension to vacation travel, commutes and more. Some gamified elements, like marking the checkpoint and collecting coins, will be integrated and incorporated with the voice assistant system to increase user engagement and carbon-neutral traveling habits while using the app.

To deliver this, our team partners bridges graduate level student researchers in academia and cutting-edge AI researchers in the private sector. Critical to the project is a dedication to ethical issues and privacy as evident in full compliance with GDPR, thanks to the involvement of the University of Groningen’s Ethical Committee.

Designed with user inclusivity in mind, 9292Hoi is also particularly beneficial for the visually impaired and those traveling with luggage, as it allows complete voice-based navigation. This not only elevates the user experience but it also solidifies 9292ov's position as an innovator in public transportation services. As the world gradually shifts from screens to speech interfaces, 9292Hoi is timely and forward-looking.At the same time, it looks back at 9292ov’s origins as a phone-based speech interface. Future iterations could include personalized voice commands like “Navigate me home” or even “Suggest a scenic route with historical insights”, along with innovations to the gaming component. This positions 9292Hoi as a progressive tool for today and a cornerstone for the travel experience of tomorrow.
