basic design

We want the most basic design to probably look a lot like TraduWiki.

There are documents, and you can view them on a page.

Each document is broken up into sentences and probably sentences are grouped by paragraph. But the sentence boundaries are made clear. You can click a sentence to edit its translation. Only one translation is (usually?) shown in the interface, but if present, it's there on the right-hand side.

You can browse all the documents. Maybe documents have tags. Maybe you can search documents for particular terms.

You can see which documents have the most complete translations.

features that we'll need

(split these out to new pages as necessary)

• user accounts
• maintain history of all the edits
• be able to see all the edits
• be able to export all the text, perhaps into TMX format.
• probably no special formatting at first -- plain unicode text everywhere. no links.

really important feature: the name

alexr suggests Guampa.

Why "Guampa"? A guampa contains your tereré. You use it with your friends and hang out and drink some mate. It's a social thing. It's Paraguayan. It evokes conversation and communication.

software stack

• Python 3
• a database -- need to decide about that -- sqlite to start, but with SQLAlchemy ORM, so we can switch easily later if necessary.
• probably Bottle again -- Flask, which works with Python 3.3+!
• probably AngularJS/Bootstrap again

interface design principles

Mike brings up the important point: in general, we should do our websites in idiomatic Paraguayan Spanish. Especially: use voseo.

I guess (in the long run?), we're going to want to localize the interface. Especially if we want the package to be useful for other groups building documents in other language pairs. It seems like Angular would make this especially easy.

initial things to import

We could get all of the Wikipedia articles from Vikipetã and translate them into Spanish.

Moreover, we could get the Vital Articles from Spanish Wikipedia and translate those into Guarani. Would anybody mind if we re-import those back into Vikipetã?
