Don't mock out migration in recorder tests

The mocking removed in this PR was not working consistently because there was no synchronization to make sure migration was finished before releasing unpatching the migration function.

Alternatives to this PR could be:

• synchronize by not returning from the test helpers until the migration is done
• yield from the test helpers so the mocks are in place throughout the test
