Running macOS 12.4, Intel, Java 1.0 (11.0.10) (and I just ran Java 8 Update 351 to be sure). jExifToolGUI is 2.0.1

I was able to create two custom metadata sets, but now I can't update them. I have exported, modified and created a new CSV to import that, but that doesn't import. No error; just nothing happens. Making a change and hitting save has no effect (again no feedback no error). In randomly adding things and removing them I did manage to get it to save once, but then it won't again.

Here's a video… you can see that ONCE I got it to save, but then not after that.

I need to check this further. On Linux and Windows it works. I only have a very old Macbook with an older MacOS (can't remeber the version) and currently not at hand.
The MacOS bundle as of 2.0.0 only comes as a bundle including java 11. You do not need to install anything additionally.

Oh interesting — should I uninstall standalone Java? I suppose so, and I'll test again. And if I can assist with testing on a modern OS, let me know. Happy to run tests and get logs for you.

More testing: I removed the stand-alone Java and that made no difference. I then installed on Windows and started working from there. Overall much more successful with manipulating the "user-defined metadata combi-sets", however I just hit a point where I have the exact same issue — clicking Save does nothing, nor does Save As. I have saved over my existing preset list multiple times as I've refined and tested things, but it seems I've "broken" it.

Relaunching, redoing all my orders, then trying to save again or save-as… nothing. Exporting exports the last saved status, and importing doesn't work.

I tried deleting my custom set (that worked), then importing a modified CSV, and nothing shows up (no error but no new preset). I tried importing the actual preset CSV exported from the presets list, and that won't import either.

Rebooting windows made no difference for importing, however I could create and save a new one.

In an attempt to not have to start over yet again, I created a new preset called "test12345", and attempted to locate that in Windows in the hope that it's just a CSV file somewhere, but I can't find it. Tried the same on Mac, and can't find it there either. Any hints on where this custom set is?

I feel totally stuck now… sure I can recreate this yet again manually, but it seems inevitable that it'll break. Hopefully if you can point me to the location of the saved preset file, and hopefully if that's just a CSV itself, I can adjust as needed from there and ignore the GUI.

Thanks
-Joseph

I will look into it. That's all I can say right now.

jexiftoolgui stores most of its data in the home directory of the user in jexiftoolgui_data
The "user-defined data" is stored inside the jexiftoolgui.db sqlite3 database file.
The csv files are exported to the users home folder. I just tested that.

Exporting CSV works fine — I just can't reimport even the native, non-modified exported preset. I don't know how to edit an sql database so I won't even try, but maybe deleting it will result in a rebuild of it and I can start over. If not, I suppose a reinstall will reset things.

Well crap, I just recreated from scratch, restarted, and the user defined metadata list has only the default ones. And no I hadn't deleted the sql database. So I guess I really am starting over again 😭
