v0.22.0

Release Notes

This release includes a change to the build process, to attempt to address a stability issue some users have reported with the ICARUS Service (the process that runs in the background to talk to the game and that only runs while ICARUS Terminal is running).

The trade off of this change it is increases the size of the download by about 5 MB, and increases the installed size of the application to around 70 MB but the download size is still under 30 MB.

I have been unable to replicate reports of the service stopping unexpectedly - this triggers an error dialog when it happens - and it's possible the issue could be specific to certain software configurations or events taking place in game, but as I'm not sure of the cause this change to the build process might help. I would love feedback on this and have opened the issues so people can submit bug reports.

If you would like to leave feedback on this issue, you can do so here.

Release Notes

Exploration data is now displayed in the Inspector panel when selecting a planet in the Map or List views in Navigation.

Geological and biological data is displayed, along side information such as if a planet can be landed on, and if it has been scanned already. It includes new information and information that has been reorganized to make it easier for explorers to see useful information at a glance, with use of iconography.

The gravity on a body is now displayed with increased level of accuracy - and is no longer displayed as zero for very low gravity bodies - and it now indicates in text if the gravity is notably Low or particularly High.

Release Notes

The theme of this update is more improvements for explorers!

Navigation Panel

  • There are new and updated icons in the System List view. The lander icon is no longer shown on the right hand side for landable bodies, instead it's incorporated into the icon for the planet on the left hand side. This was done to free up space in the UI and is bit more like how the in-game Navigation panel works, though ICARUS Terminal also indicates in the same icon if the planet has an atmosphere. The separate icon for bodies with atmosphere is still displayed for now, to make those bodies still stand out, at least while folks get used to the new view. The credits icon used to indicate high value bodies also got a small revamp.
  • System Information in the System Map now displays the number of all potentially interesting / high value bodies when exploring in uninhabited space (in addition to biological, geological and human signal sources)
  • System Information in the System Map now reports at least 1 Geological Signal for each body where geological activity has been detected with an FFS scan even if the body has not been surface scanned and we don't know exactly how many different geological signal types there are yet (so, you should see geological signal sources after doing an FSS, however the total number of them may go up as you perform Surface Scans if a body has multiple different types of geological activity on the surface).
  • The text for the system scan status in the System Map has been updated to be more accurately worded and to improve the visual appearance to make different states more obvious (the states being: no local scan data / partial data in ESDM / fully mapped in ESDM).
  • Tapping or clicking the system scan in the bottom right of the System Map view will cause the icon and status text to pulse and will fetch the latest data from ESDM (i.e. force update the cache). Explorers will probably most appreciate this; you can just "tap the screen" to make it read correctly (like you might with a physical device when it's misbehaving!) to get around that there is small lag between scanning a system and it updating in ESDM, that might cause your scanning status to often get stuck at ~95% (which previously was only resolvable by honking or performing some other sort of scan).
  • The text "Frame Shift Drive Active" is no longer displayed while jumping (or, sometimes after jumping into an unexplored system). Instead no location information is displayed while jumping, or while in an unknown location in an unexplored system.

Ship Panel

  • The "True North" directional heading indicator on the Planetary Navigation dial now has a shape that resembles the directional heading indicator used while on foot in Odyssey (i.e. it's now an isosceles trapezoid instead of a triangle).
  • The directional heading indicator on the Planetary Navigation dial should no longer "shimmer" in some instances. This was triggered by a browser engine rendering bug in Chromium, the pulsing glow that on the Planetary Navigation dial is now a steady glow to resolve this.

Release Notes

Navigation Panel

  • When a body in a System is selected in the System Map or System List view and is scanned with a Surface Scanner, information about any biological signal sources will now appear the Navigation Panel in real time.
  • When in an uninhabited system, information about the number biological, geological and human signal sources detected after using an Full Spectrum Scanner or by performing a Surface Scan is now shown in the System Information area of the System Map view. This makes the System Information section more useful for explorers (and improves the utility of the System Map for them as well). The System List review is still extremely useful for highlighting which bodies might be most interesting.
  • A cosmetic bug with appearance of the System Search input has been fixed.
  • When you press UP or DOWN using arrow keys when the Search input has focus, the input will now automatically lose focus. This is an improvement to make keyboard navigation easier (you no longer need to press ESC or use the mouse to de-focus selection if you accidentally navigate to it).

Ship Panel

  • The text on the dial "Planetary Approach Suite" is now labeled "Planetary Navigation".
  • The heading indicator on the Planetary Navigation dial was a ball on edge of the dial corresponding to the heading and is now an arrow that always points to True North. This is change in behavior as well as appearance, so now instead of showing where the ship is heading relative to True North, it shows where True North is relative to your current heading. This aligns with how the in-game compass works while on foot.
  • The Planetary Navigation dial now also provides a text based reference for your current heading (i.e. N, NW, E, SE, S, SW, W or NW).
  • The Planetary Navigation dial now remains active when in an SRV. Other ship controls remain in active, switching to an SRV instrumentation panel is still planned, but more work - this was a quick compromise. It is not active when on foot as that would have been extra work because the data the game returns is different when on foot, but the in game HUD should provide the same information when not in a ship or SRV.

Release Notes

Navigation Panel

  • The system list view now shows a plant icon for planets when a biological signal has been detected on the surface (e.g. after a scan using the Full Spectrum Scanner, by scanning a body directly or by doing a detailed Full Surface Scan). This data is not in ESDM and so will only be displayed after you have scanned a body. Data between game sessions does not persist when restarting ICARUS Terminal so this isn't a perfect solution (but I have plans to address that...).
  • The system object information panel now includes information about total number of biological signals found on a planet, and if a Full Surface Scan has been performed, what biological lifeforms were detected.
  • Information in the system object information panel - which is shown when selecting a body in the system map or system list views - has been reorganized to group geological and biological information together and some headings have been renamed.

Other

  • The cursor has been changed to a new default cursor. The previous cursor was not an asset I created or modified, but it seems to have been based directly on the cursor found in Elite: Dangerous. It has been replaced with an original asset I've created. All assets are original or used under license (e.g. some icons are based on the excellent icons published on edassets.org). Nobody asked me to replace the cursor, I'm just being pre-emptive as it wasn't intentional and literally using an in game asset was unintentional.

Release Notes

Navigation Panel

  • Improved appearance of notification in bottom right of system map which indicates current system scan status, to add an icon, different text and different colors for the text depending on if the system is (a) not scanned (b) scanned but incomplete data in EDSM or (c) scanned and known to be complete in EDSM.

Engineering Panel

  • Bug fix so that "special" engineering mods, such as the decorative flack cannon rewards from the "Sandra's Workshop" missions over the holidays, no longer cause the Engineering panel to fail to render if fitted on a ship. Engineering mods that are unknown will now be ignored.

Other changes

  • Bug fix for display not rotating correctly when using the app in PWA mode (thank you to @Xstoudi for reporting and fixing)
  • Improve alignment of clock in the title bar so the date + time text doesn't overlap network status icon
  • The fix for unknown blueprints should also resolve an issue with the data transmission status icon in the title bar getting stuck, that was being triggered when opening the Ship or Engineering panels if unknown blueprints were applied to any modules on the current ship
