Using Vcxrsv installer to download MOOSE application on Windows 11 machine

I am having trouble correctly installing the framework required to use MOOSE on a Windows 11 laptop. I downloaded the Vxcrsv installer and followed the steps on the MOOSE framework website but I did not understand that when I was setting up my UNIX username and password that you cannot see the password being typed. Therefore, I thought my computer was broken and closed the command prompt and now I am not able to access the UNIX username or password on my command prompt. How do I uninstall the application and try again. This is what my command prompt says currently:

I do not have a WSL instance available to test on, so please take this advice with a grain of salt. I am generally following resources provided by Microsoft, and you can find what I am following here.

I would start by removing the distribution you have installed. First, list the distributions you have available (you likely only have one) by running the command wsl -l -v in your Command Prompt. You should see distribution names. Pick the one you want to remove (in this case your Ubuntu install) and run wsl --unregister <DistributionName>, replacing <DistributionName> with the name for the Ubuntu installation on your machine.

At this point, I think you can try wsl --install to get a new default distribution or installing distributions from the Microsoft Store. Once you have a properly set up WSL instance, you should proceed with the rest of the MOOSE WSL instructions to make sure everything is properly updated and ready to install MOOSE packages.

All I did was copy the makefile into my command prompt. I did not use an editor.

I had to go back and look at what you posted when I asked you to run history.. Yikes! Indeed, it is as you say, you edited the information outside of the WSL environment, and then pasted the contents into the terminal. Okay... in this case we need to backtrack a bit. This means you have not rebuilt your application with the physics modules you intend to enable.

You might want to invest some time looking into installing Microsoft VS Code, and then understand where these "WSL files" exist on your hard drive. This is how I operate on my personal gaming rig running Windows at home...

I was able to use vi to edit the file after doing a quick google search on how to use the command. After making the edit I ran:

which conda
source ~/.bashrc
which conda

and it worked. When I open up a new terminal now it opens in moose. This is what the new terminal says:

Excellent! With Conda out of the way you still need to go back and rebuild your application with all the physics modules you want enabled.

Personally, I would situate myself with a proper IDE if you plan on doing any sort of MOOSE based development (like VS Code. As capable as VIM is, its not for the faint of heart!

I have already downloaded VS Code. I am not very experienced with C++ but I think that I can look at the tutorials on https://mooseframework.inl.gov/getting_started/examples_and_tutorials/index.html

I also was able to use vi to effectively edit the physics module this time LOL. Thank you for your help!

Hi. I have a similar issue, I followed the steps however whenever I open a new terminal anconda is not recognized. I edited the bash file using the vi editor and inputted the code below before "conda active moose".

You basically copied and pasted someone else's home directory path. That person is going to have a different username than you. So you can't do that.

You need to use your own path to your home directory.
