Reverts #1229
I was a bit too quick here. Specifically the name is not universally agreed on and the implementation is not sure to actually guarantee an advantage for the optimizer. Let's back off on this since it introduces new API surface, to ensure that we can do a non-breaking minor version release on the weekend with many other fixes and featuers.
