I think that IPython should use Python3 or give users the option between Python 2 and 3.

It does give you the option - you need to install it separately in Python 2 and 3, and then you can run ipython3 to start it with Py3. There may also be packages available for your OS, e.g. install ipython3 on Debian-based systems.
