It is the job of the Jakarta EE Working Group to ensure that the individuals in the ecosystem, who have chosen and will choose, to support the technology via diverse Livestream events (for example 2020 (3 completed) are properly thanked by the body that holds the project's budget and is able to execute such formidable activity.

As such a portion of the marketing budget must be allocated to formally thank the awesome work of #ossDOERs. Each individual involved is the most important contributor in the rebranding & future of Java EE, now Jakarta EE.

The diversity of our global communities, of the individuals who have chosen to continue contributing to Jakarta EE, to those who will join later, ALL unite & educate us. To dedicate time to become consciously aware, to simplify the messages, to show up, and support the momentum of any activity... Just to show up and start contributing are all the best characteristics that make open source collaboration a worthy activity!

Considerations on initiative :

Shipment

  • Globally without restrictions reaching every Jakartee who helped either as a volunteer in the committee & as a speaker

Items/Swag: Jakarta EE

  • t-shirt

  • hoody

  • cup (optional) if a cup is included, please let's add some fun to the design and make it both sides so that the branding is stronger than the 2019 cup.

  • sticker

  • button (optional)

How

  • Create a google survey (internally controlled) that enables the committee and speakers to submit their swag with all the details required from size to address, etc

  • When possible, the swag needs to be shipped at least (1 month ) before the event, so that committee and speakers can use the swag during the event and have a blast unifying the event via thank YOU for being awesome recognization.

extra features on the Jakarta EE Champion Program I would love to see be considered worthy of the THANK YOU!

  • TechTalks participants

  • Bloggers who submit their content to YouTube, blogs, Collateral repo ... etc

  • most issues (per quarter/ month /year) submitted

  • mpst PRs (per quarter/ month /year) submitted

  • first PR merged

Does that also apply to the Committee Members who help mentor the Jakarta EE PRs? ;-)
Cause there's been more than one such merge and I am also a cospeaker at the JakartaOne Virtual next month.

Yes 👍🏻 that’s the idea when focusing on code-collaboration work.

Everyone is an equal & important player. The merit goes to the public work accomplished. 💪🏼🥋💙

How can I file a Swag request unrelated to JakartaONE? I like to use Jakarta EE merch props on my Youtube channel for the upcoming eposide on Jakarta EE. 😎

And where's the link for those contributing to JakartaONE? Has it been fixed already. Because given how slow the USPS is right now under the current Postmaster (unless it was delivered by some other service) I would need to request it ASAP to still have at least a slight chance of getting to Germany before JakartaONE.😇

Once the bare minimum scope is placed, the suggested Google form can gather that data. Ideally every activity would have a call2action bottom that enables anyone who contributes to the project to submit their swag request for consideration.

For example, for JakartaONE the committee has the email access to all speakers, the committee could send the link to that group & done ✔️

For example, for Jakarta YouTube contributors, the collateral Repo will be used to accept those contributions, so that Repo can be used to welcome the request for swag that triggers a private email with access to the Google form that gathers the contributors’ information.

For example, we can re-use the code being written for (we are working right now on the Contributors’ card with focus on the 9 release) to track the PRs, Issues etc to find who needs to be thanked 💙💙💙💙

The features are endless. It is a matter of starting & making sure that this project protects & highlights everyone who is contributing to the betterment of Jakarta EE. No judges but sole public actions that bring the coolest awareness to those #ossDOERs 💪🏼🥋

So... as my live show is on November 20th already, how to obtain the merch stuff in time...?

That sounds challenging, unless it was sent with DHL, FedEx or similar, I bet they won't make that. I was waiting for some documents that have almost no value from the US last year, they were sent around Nov 10 and did not arrive till February 2020 (even though DeJoy had not even been installed as Postmaster General then) because they were also stuck in customs. Now imagine some swag where the customs had to think even more about it. Unless an express delivery is possible, I would not hope you get that within 2 weeks.

I am not a member of the JakartaONE English committee. Do you mean your participation on that event or your amazing participation on the Jakarta EE 9 release Markus?

I say do send a git issue to the Collateral Repo with swag request, just answer why you deserve it as there are not yet bones in the imitative.
Avoid providing your private information & let’s hope that requests like yours can be tackled without waiting for the full program to be set into place!

Correct Werner, patience while helping pilot a new program & dealing with the virus is required.

Let’s trust that we will move to a project with a simple thanking -model where everyone is kind & ask questions before assuming stuff. 🥰

I will host a live show on my Youtube channel on November 20th at 20 CET where I will host Ivar Grimstad livehacking on some code. This is an innofficial fun coding show about Jakarta EE 9.

Okay, see #40 - now let's wait what happens...

Thanks!

BTW, why don't we have a public merch shop?

BTW, why don't we have a public merch shop?

Yes, ideally that becomes a Swag feature in the Jakarta EE website under its Branding resources Tab.

The tab doesn’t exist but in April 2018 I stated that in the future the project needs it to enable anyone who wants to buy by 1 quantity available swag.

That feature is super successful at The Apache Software foundation! I am a fan of it. 💜

So how do others request that for JakartaONE or similar events?
We just had a Jakarta EE related talk yesterday at Devoxx Ukraine.

With your help, the public conversation starts the how.

I repeat: do send a git issue to the collateral Repo & push for the outcome! Ask questions, do not assume or wait in the sidelines. ✔️

Those who do are the ones that get the power to make things happen because not only visualization becomes available for all to understand the WHY but also the HOW & WHAT gets tackled via open & traceable communication mediums used & preferred by the project’s community! 💙

Actions cement the contract of any open source community!

I am moving these issues to the jakartaee/collateral repo in order to keep the focus on website-related issues for the jakartaee/jakartaone.org repository!

Btw, does #43 cover everyone who speaks or presents at JakartaONE anyway, or should we still request that individually?

@keilw: ideally everyone should request via git issue the swag. The committees in the future will provide the access to the eform upon sending the Accept session notification.
For the 2020 JakartaONEs, we must go old school and do everything manually. The eform will need to be created to privately enable that Jakartee to send of the information to the EF team.

@chrisguindon + 1! Thank you!

@aeiras i should put a new issue? or only to add a comment here? i guess it's not very clear process to request swag for jakartaee's.
