What is maintenance ?

What I like to do is shut down whatever live project I have and revamp various sections. This is so you don't get a bad UX during the changing process. Generally, notifications of such will be done 24-48 ahead of the scheduled down time. During this time you will not have access to any part of the site.
Generally, maintenance lasts 2-3 hours and can even done in intervals. And sometimes, changes are so minor, why take the site down? So I won't if it isn't needed.
