for #1 - also reconfigured the main app a little bit to do conditional loading of either the main convo screen (if we have a token) or the login screen (if we don't). I don't know if tokens expire, so we may have to add more to the checkAuth() function if they do (to perform a whoami request - very straightforward stuff)
