"official" docker images require to manually enter PR to docker-library registry, get docker team to review, etc. We have no control on the release process.
I suggest, to mimic https://hub.docker.com/_/elasticsearch/, we ask for DEPRECATION and focus on releasing jenkins images from this repo to our own jenkinsci/jenkins on dockerhub.

Please also note we own dockerhub "jenkins" organization, so can release images as jenkins/jenkins if this makes more sense to follow the jenkins.io effort to "do more than just CI"

I'm +1 to start pushing to jenkins/jenkins then deprecate both jenkinsci and official

Who is "we"? As far as I know, none of the infra admins have any access to that organization on Docker Hub.

By 'we' I mean at least I do ;)
I've asked docker to unlock it so we can use it, not sure where to share such credentials.

@ndeloof yes jenkins infra team would need to own the jenkins org to use it (or stick with jenkinsci, which I guess they own now).

sure, just need to know who to configure as owner of this org. "jenkins infra" is not someone I know :P

@rtyler jenkinsadmin is already owner on dockerhub jenkinsorganisation, let me know if we need more

I've asked Docker team for guidance on deprecating "jenkins" official image
(#docker-store slack channel)

We have no control on the release process.

IMO the most severe issue (as they approve everything eventually, I think) is the delay in getting security fixes out. Which actually motivated publishing LTS releases to jenkinsci.

@daniel-beck yes - it is a problem.

* Publish under "jenkins" dockerhub organization

see #515

* Update README.md

* Remove lts reference

* also publish images under "jenkinsci"

We have asked Docker folks to support redirection from jenkinsci -> jenkins

Does this also apply to jenkinsci/blueocean?
