Deprecate "official docker image" and redirect to jenkins/jenkins #515
Comments
I'm +1 to start pushing to jenkins/jenkins then deprecate both jenkinsci and official |
Who is "we"? As far as I know, none of the infra admins have any access to that organization on Docker Hub. |
By 'we' I mean at least I do ;) |
@ndeloof yes jenkins infra team would need to own the jenkins org to use it (or stick with jenkinsci, which I guess they own now). |
sure, just need to know who to configure as owner of this org. "jenkins infra" is not someone I know :P |
@rtyler |
I've asked Docker team for guidance on deprecating "jenkins" official image |
IMO the most severe issue (as they approve everything eventually, I think) is the delay in getting security fixes out. Which actually motivated publishing LTS releases to |
@daniel-beck yes - it is a problem. |
* Publish under "jenkins" dockerhub organization see #515 * Update README.md * Remove lts reference * also publish images under "jenkinsci" We have asked Docker folks to support redirection from jenkinsci -> jenkins
- jenkinsci/jenkins and Official jenkins image is deprecated. - [Deprecate "official docker image" and redirect to jenkins/jenkins · Issue #515 · jenkinsci/docker](jenkinsci/docker#515)
deprecation notice is already in dockerhub |
Summary: The jenkinsci/jenkins image has been deprecated. Both LTS and weekly versions are now provided by the jenkins/jenkins repository. References: - jenkinsci/docker#515 (jenkinsci/jenkins) - jenkinsci/docker#517 (jenkinsci → jenkins) Test Plan: Respin Jenkins containers Reviewers: dereckson Reviewed By: dereckson Differential Revision: https://devcentral.nasqueron.org/D1828
Does this also apply to jenkinsci/blueocean? |
"official" docker images require to manually enter PR to docker-library registry, get docker team to review, etc. We have no control on the release process.
I suggest, to mimic https://hub.docker.com/_/elasticsearch/, we ask for DEPRECATION and focus on releasing jenkins images from this repo to our own jenkinsci/jenkins on dockerhub.
Please also note we own dockerhub "jenkins" organization, so can release images as jenkins/jenkins if this makes more sense to follow the jenkins.io effort to "do more than just CI"
