Scripts to analyze Discogs data for the most commonly used words in song titles. You can run these yourself, or see my own summary of the results.
This application uses Discogs’ API but is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by Discogs. ‘Discogs’ is a trademark of Zink Media, LLC.
- Download and unzip the XML data dump from the Discogs developer site.
- Download this repo:
git clone https://github.com/jerryorr/song-analyzer.git
- Install Node.js (if necessary) and from the
song-analyzerdirectory, runnpm install - Run the title extractor (this can take quite some time):
node extract-titles.mjs [discogs XML file] > ./titles.txt
- Run the title analyzer on the titles file:
node analyze-titles.mjs ./titles.txt > ./results.md
The results of the analysis are in results.md
