The exception can be triggered by creating a ChartViewer without an actual chart in it, e.g.:

This error gets thrown when you move the mouse over a ChartViewer without a loaded chart. I fixed it in my code by disabling the CHartViewer when no chart is loaded.

I really wished this project would be updated again or get an active fork anytime soon.
