…ate{}) when no author is given in the document (it is kind of surprising that LaTeX doesn't know how to properly remove the blank \author{} space...)
also add \author{} if no author is provided to avoid the LaTeX warning (while waiting for jgm/pandoc#5961 to be merged)

Otherwise there will be a LaTeX warning "No \author given" when the .tex file is compiled. This does not affect spacing in the title block.
