Getting Started

After following our installation guide you might be wondering what your next steps should be. Never fear, we'll help you get started here. First thing's first, if you completed the installation guide it sent you to your site's home page where you can now log in and work with your content. To log in click the login button at the top left of your site. This will take you to the login form (pictured below).

login form

Enter your user name and password. The one in the screen shot is for MomoKO's test site.

Once you've logged in the login button transforms into the dashboard button. Clicking that button will open MomoKO 2.0's dashboard sidebar, which is pictured below.

full dashboard

We will now go over each item in the dashboard by section. In this guide I will be focusing on the items that will help you get started. There will be another page that will go over the dashboard in more detail which will be posted later.

User section

There are three items in this section:

  1. Settings - for your user settings
  2. Manage - to manage other users
  3. Register - add new users

We will not be going over the last two here. Instead we will focus on settings. Clicking this item will send you to the settings form for you specific user. Here you can update your password as well as your details. If you wish to change your password click the check box next to do you wish to change your password? You will need to provide your old password as well as a new one twice. Pro Tip: did you know you can change your settings, and other user's settings within an SSH session? It's true, have a look at our SSH Tips page for more information.

The rest of this page should explain itself pretty well. The Name field allows you to change your user name, E-Mail allows you to change your contact e-mail, and the two date format fields allow you to change how dates are formatted for you when you look at items in the content lists, or the mini post list. The final setting isn't used for most users, but admins will find it especially useful. It limits the amount of rows on any particular page in the log section, as well as content lists.

Content Section

In the dashboard sidebar the next section is the content section. The items in this section, allow you to edit the current page or post (these options are only available on an actual page or post), or list your pages, posts, and attachments. Each list looks and function fairly similar. Just after installation you have one page and one post. A page is an actual web page within your site. Depending on you page's status it will be displayed in your theme's navigation menu or list. They are supposed to be relatively firm, meaning they are designed to be somewhat permanent on only edited when information becomes severely out of date or irrelevant.

On the other hand posts are like 1.6's news articles. They are designed to be temporary and often removed or changed whenever information becomes out of date. Your first task should be to edit the default home page. You can do this from the page list. It is likely the only page here, so just click the pencil icon to open it in MomoKO's editor.

editor body

The editor has two sections; body, and properties. At the top is a box for your page's title. This appears in navigation menus or lists as well as the page's browser tab and/or the browser's title bar next to your site's name. The body tab holds a large text box with a toolbar for adding markup. No knowledge of HTML or other markup languages is needed. The property tab holds your page's status, what groups can view it if it is private and if it is a child to another page. Child page's are shown in fly-out menus or sub lists in navigation.

editor page properties

Once you have edited the first page to your liking you can head over to the posts lists and either remove or edit this first post. As a note the properties tab for posts is different than that for pages as posts do not have parents, and can't be private. Have a look below for comparison

There are no attachments just after installation, but any time you upload a file that is not an HTML document it is added here so you can update or remove that file when needed.

Site and Exit Sections

We aren't going to go over the items in the next section in this guide. It is best to have a look at our more advanced guide for more information on the site section. The items in this section are designed to help you manage your site. MomoKO logs each change, each log in/log out, and each error in her logs. You can view these at any time by clicking 'logs' in the site section. Furthermore you can change your site's settings using that item. If you'd like to alter the look of your site that is done under 'appearances' MomoKO 2.0 comes with two layouts; a 2.0 version of Quirk from MomoKO 1.1, and the new Simple & Clean layout. Layouts in 2.0 define how content is displayed relative to other content on a page. It defines navigation, module, header, body, and footer areas for MomoKO. Each layout may include multiple schemes which define how each section is displayed, borders, colors, and other styles. Quirk only comes with the original scheme, but Simple & Clean as a few. So try them out and use the module section at the bottom to move modules around.

The exit section contains only two items. You can close the dashboard, which is also done by clicking the button at the top right, clicking anywhere outside the dashboard, or navigating to a new section, page, post, or item. You can also log out from here by clicking 'logout'.

That is it. You should have the knowledge you need now to get started using MomoKO. For more information on MomoKO see the other pages in this Wiki.
