rename as... (supporting material, appendix etc) option when multiple attachments #98
Comments
Following up on the discussion in the forum: I agree that it would be nice to have a better way to do this but I am not sure that tags are a good approach. Maybe a possibility would be to ask users for a suffix if there are multiple attachments so that you can manually enter '_appendix' or '_NBERWorkingpaper'. But Zotfile would have to somehow remember this information and not ask again the next time renameAttachment is called. Another idea was to add option to the small popup window so that the user can select from different possibilities. But that isn't supported by the process window right now. I don't really have time to get into this right now. Still planing to finish 3.2 and I will be traveling for next two weeks. But feel free to dive into it... |
What do you think about starting to use hidden "system" tags (with tag type=2)? Speaking with Dan and Aurimas on zotero-dev, they think that something would probably break, but that any issues would be relatively easy to fix and accommodate. We could add a context menu option to change the "Zotfile label" tags and a prompt to add a label when multiple attachments are attached to the same item. |
The system tags sounds interesting also for the tablet tags. But it's a little risky when this is not a standard part of the API. "something would probably break" is a little troubling and it should be a clear they they are not going to change tag type=2 in Zotero, which would break zotfile. |
really need this. If I have multiple attachments, like paper/slides/tutorial for one collection. When I rename all collections, these attachments will all be renamed into the same name and I can not open them in Zotero anymore. |
I warmly echo the need for this feature, as many papers now put some useful information in the supplementary materials alongside the main article. Now when I download them all and rename with Zotfile, all files under the same library item bear the same file name, which is impossible to distinguish. I like the idea of little pop-up window asking users for suffixes or types of document when there are multiple attachments. |
I think it's partially achieved by the option: Tools > ZotFile Preferences > Renaming Rules > "Add user input to filename." Thanks a lot for this improvement. However, if this option is checked, a dialog box prompts every time when I make any change in any of the input fields in the section "Renaming Format" on the same page. Not sure whether this is normal. |
