Or perhaps you’ve wondered how to evaluate or negotiate an offer where equity was a key part of the offer. This information can be critical, especially in startups and fast-growing tech companies. Many of us know some of the general ideas, or have done some reading on the topic, but equity compensation is a complicated and difficult area usually only thoroughly understood by professionals.
 
 This guide aims to improve that situation. It does not presume you have a law degree or MBA. The material is dense, but we have tried to present it in a way that an ordinary, non-lawyer person can understand.
