fyi, the _new and _free methods are also available in the older openssl 1.0.1 (as available in current debian stable) from my look at the header files. Not sure how long back these exist though and how old of an openssl you're targeting to support. |

Please also note that this has only been compile-tested against openssl 1.1.0. No runtime testing. No testing against old openssl. |
