Japanese for "blue sky" (青푸른空하늘).

Current passion project: language learning tools (word/sentence translation, reading helpers, flash cards, and more) and Discord bot written in TypeScript with API written in Elixir/Phoenix.

Japanese for "entryway" (玄gen関kan), and contraction/play on words of "language exchange": 言gen語go交kou換kan → 言gen換kan.

Language & culture exchange application. Features include public story posting, sharing a story with communities around specific interests, and user curated/created language and culture lessons. Web app written in Vue.js, backend in Node.js, and mobile app in Flutter. Project on hold while I learn Elixir and more Flutter, although my frustrations towards HelloTalk may bring it out of hiatus sooner 😊

I graduated from Temple University, Japan Campus in 2019 with a B.A. in Japanese Language (3.21 GPA 🙌). Throughout my time there I kept wanting to get into programming. I first tried with Objective C, then C# / Unity in my senior year, but I found it difficult to keep up with university studies and still have energy for studying programming on the side. Shortly after graduation, unable to find a job in Japan that I would enjoy doing with my language-based skillset at the time, I picked up web development starting with some Udemy courses and was immediately addicted.

As someone who has been studying Japanese since 2011, Korean since 2013, and various other languages along the way, I'm drawn towards projects which enable people to study foreign languages in a more engaging, modern, and current year way than what I was offered in high school and university, and to share their culture and learn about other cultures. Essentially I'm passionate about enabling people to educate themselves and learn about the world with the goal of being fun and engaging.
