In the virtual console, the match is invisible (black FG, black BG). As the match gets larger, it becomes impossible to determine which file is which.

Hmm, sorry I don't know what virtual console is, and I could use some more info.

  • Which version of Ruby are you running? It is reported that some people have had issues on Ruby 1.8 though I couldn't reproduce the problem.
  • Which part of the screen exactly is invisible? Matched terms or selected item?
  • A screenshot will be really helpful to diagnose the problem.

like TTYs, ctrl+alt+f1 etc

The matched term is the same as the background on Ruby 2.0.0 but it works as expected on a terminal emulator in X.
