Getting Started with Spotlight

Spotlight is a Super Mario 3D World editor. Naturally this means you're going to need to get yourself the game's files.

We prefer that you get them using a real Wii U that's homebrewed so you can run a disk ripper like Dumpling.
Ideally, you will have a backup copy of the original files before you start editing. Spotlight requires a folder containing the following folders (which have files in them). The folder containing these might be called "Content".

Once these are acquired, you can start using Spotlight.

Installing Spotlight

Download the latest release of Spotlight from the Releases Page (Not the source code).
Inside the .zip file are the programs files. Extract them to a folder and you should be able to launch the program by double clicking "Spotlight.exe".

Your First Visit

When you open Spotlight for the first time, you'll be greeted by this window:

The "folder that contains these folders" is the folder from the Getting Started With Spotlight section. The folder that looks like the image in that section is the one you want to choose after clicking "OK". While the window says that you only need ObjectData and StageData, some features use the other folders, and will be unavailable if they are missing.

Generating the Object Database

If you don't already have a database (You most likely don't have one) Spotlight will display the following message:

Clicking "Yes" will start generating a database for you. This can take some time, but Loadin G. Bar will accompany you.
Clicking "No" will pop-up a confirmation window where you can change your mind.
Clicking "Cancel" will close Spotlight. Maybe don't do that.
