Description

The language menu dropdown shows "English" as selected even though this is not the case:

Reproduce

This is reproducible with the latest alpha 9 on https://jupyterlite.github.io/demo/lab/

Expected behavior

It should be possible to go back to English via the menu.

A workaround for now is to remove the locale from the settings:
