Crossref #8, adding this issue here for creation of a list of English exact synonyms to be added including as @graybeal pointed out exact synonyms such as:

  1. liter for litre, and derivatives thereof e.g., liter per second

  2. meter for metre and derivatives.

  3. Other cases include Molar for moles per litre and the prefixed versions thereof e.g.,mM for mmol.L-1 etc.

  4. micron as synonym to micrometre.

  5. var Mentioned on p140 of the SI brochure, The var is identical to the volt ampere.

Please feel free to help add more. This could be another thing to draw on OM for lists of.

Also add l back to parser for litre, apparently UCUM accepts it too in addition to L.

Will there be a general rule for plurals?

@dr-shorthair are you suggesting we add plural versions of labels as synonyms for base terms e.g., metres, and prefixed bases e.g., kilograms? In that case in order to auto-generate things, I think the primary labels will need to be formatted a specific way e.g., US acre instead of acre - US so that we can add a s to the end to pluralize it.

What about derived units e.g. m.s-1 should we have pluralized labels for that too metres per seconds I feel like we shouldn't but maybe I'm wrong thoughts?

I think the most common form in English is metres-per-second, moles-per-kilogram, newtons-per-square-metre, kilograms-per-metre-per-second etc, i.e. {pluralA}[-per-{singularB}[-per-{singularC}[-per-{singularD}]]] etc.

Plurals in the numerator, and singulars in the denominator(s) (if present).

Great thanks @dr-shorthair I should be able to implement this once I've update the new list of primary labels as I described above, adding this new cases for synonyms aka plurals in the numerator, and singulars in the denominator(s) (if present). I can then have it generate additional synonyms based on the existing ones to replace metre with meter, litre with liter etc. That way it'll automatically generate all cases for m and L e.g., metre per second, metres per second, meter per second, and meters per second.
