YaST is the installation and configuration tool for openSUSE and the SUSE Linux Enterprise distributions. It features an easy-to-use interface and powerful configuration capabilities.

Basic YaST is installed with:

# zypper in yast2 yast2-control-center yast2-control-center-qt

The modules I use the most are:

  • Software:
    • Software Management and Software Repositories: yast2-packager
  • Hardware:
    • Printer: yast2-printer
    • Scanner: yast2-scanner
  • System:
    • /etc/sysconfig Editor: yast2-sysconfig
    • Boot Loader: yast2-bootloader
    • Date and Time and Language: yast2-country
    • Network Settings: yast2-network
    • Partitioner: yast2-storage-ng
  • Network Services
    • Proxy: yast2-proxy
  • Security and Users:
    • Sudo: yast2-sudo
    • User and Group Management: yast2-users

For handling 1-Click Install: yast2-metapackage-handler

For theming: yast2-theme

Translations:

  • English: yast2-trans-en
  • American English: yast2-trans-en_US
  • Portuguese: yast2-trans-pt
  • Brazilian Portuguese: yast2-trans-pt_BR
