Very impressive work! #167

That looks really cool. A while back I tried to embed ECL (Embeddable Common Lisp) into Unreal Engine and make some kind of VR REPL, but I ran into problems I couldn't figure out. I might have another go at it one day. A VR view for Kons-9 might be a cool project for the future. |
I also considered this, but decided against it as calling C++ from Common Lisp is not that straightforward. There do exist ways to do it - you could use Clasp or some of borodust's efforts - but it seemed easier to simply use an existing 3d engine written in Lisp.
This is very much a one man project, and so an indie game engine seemed more manageable than using the huge UE4 engine.

@selwynsimsek Cool VR setup, and welcome to our project. Please introduce yourself in this discussion: #8 I will close this issue. |
I am a Common Lisp developer who has been interested in virtual reality and 3D graphics in the recent past. I was very excited to hear about this project and it seems like much hard effort has already gone into it.
A few years ago, I became interested in virtual reality and decided to build a system revolving around the idea of developing while inside virtual reality using a REPL from within virtual reality. I believe it has many similar aims to kons-9. For example, the desire to erase 'the distinction between developers and end users' and have a very tight development feedback loop was exactly what I had in mind.
I presented a proof of concept demo at the European Lisp Symposium in 2020: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMsMm_q-akI
I am largely busy with other things at the moment so I am not able to spare much time on this or other projects. However, I thought it would be nice to mention it and wanted to say that I am glad that others are pursuing this live image development concept with Common Lisp.
I was not sure how to contact you so I decided to open an issue on the repo, apologies if it is not convenient.
All the best!
