`ivariants.el’ provide various Ideographic Variants editing and browsing capabilities.
By using variants data from CJKVI variants database, you can browse, or input various kinds of Ideographic variants.
You need Emacs 24.3 or later to use this tool. Installation of large-scale Han ideograph fonts is recommended. (e.g. Hanazono Mincho (AFDKO) font)
`M-x ivariants-insert’ inserts the variants at the current position.
`M-x ivariants-browse’ let you browse the variants.
Following commands for specified region are provided.
- ivariants-to-simplified
- converts to simplified ideographs.
- ivariants-to-traditional
- converts to traditional ideograhs
- ivariants-to-pr-china
- converts to characters used in PRC.
- ivariants-to-japan
- converts to Japanese ideographs.
- ivariants-to-taiwan
- converts to Taiwanese ideographs.
You can directly install this tool with MELPA.
You should assign some shortcut keys if you use this command frequently.

Sometimes, “traditional character” of P.R.C and Taiwanese character may differ. For example, “说“‘s traditional character is “説” while Taiwanese character is “說”.
Variant data are taken from https://github.com/cjkvi/cjkvi-variants and http://unicode.org/Public/UCD/latest/ucd/StandardizedVariants.txt. ‘DailyUse’ is a modified version of data from http://kanji.zinbun.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~yasuoka/CJK.html.
