Thoughts? Would you buy again? Also, would you recommend if you were only running a single external monitor vs dual?

I didn't realize that Dells were DisplayPort only (not Thunderbolt) which means they can't daisy chain well (I couldn't get it to work at all) and they don't do data transfer (you have to add a special USB cable). This makes me sad because:

  1. I have to deal with 5 plugs (power, two display ports, usb, audio) when pulling my laptop out or hooking it up.
  2. It doesn't have a built-in webcam like the Apple Thunderbolt displays :-(
  3. Doesn't have built-in speakers

However, I'd still get the Dell Ultra HD 4k Monitor P2715Q 27-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor. After I realized it wasn't Thunderbolt I looked around and didn't quite find anything that suits my needs and was Thunderbolt. I was looking for 27" 4k display that has great reviews and isn't crazy expensive. So I solved my problems other ways:

  1. Crazy amount of cords to hook up: Vertical Docking Station from Henge.
  2. No built-in webcam: Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920, 1080p Widescreen Video Calling and Recording
  3. No built-in speakers: Anker Classic Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker for my home speakers and will use my current home speakers (some ancient but solid Creative speakers) as my office speakers.

So I was able to solve all of my problems related to the monitors. We'll see how things turn out when I actually get those three thing to me this week. I'll post a walkthrough of my setup in #62. Feel free to subscribe to that issue for updates.

Hi Kent!

What resolution do you run with your 4K monitors?

I recently bought a 4K 27" monitor to use with my MacBook Pro and got really disappointed when I found out that any resolution between 2K and 4K performes poorly on a Mac.

I'm wondering if you somehow manage to get a scaled resolution to run smoothly.

I'm happy at 2K 🤷‍♂️

Thanks! I guess I'll need a second monitor so I can run 2x2K as well :)
