Just received an email from Flightradar24. They are asking for all receivers (that aren't directly from them) to disable MLAT if said receivers are sharing to multiple networks.

https://forum.flightradar24.com/forum/radar-forums/flightradar24-feeding-data-to-flightradar24/213550-disable-mlat-if-sharing-with-other-networks

Is there a balena variable we can set for this?

You can disable this from the status page of your feeder:

https://ip-address-of-your-feeder:8754

  • Click "Settings"
  • Choose the dropdown to "disable" next to MLAT

Hmm, I don't think this sticks between upgrades though.

Hi guys,

Thanks for reaching out. All of us have received the same email today. It looks like it was sent out to all feeders, regardless of whether them having MLAT turned on or not. I have spent quite a bit of time understanding the actual issue here, and it seems it concerns MLAT spilling from different networks to Flightradar24.

The way balena-ads-b is structured, MLAT from other providers should not spill into the Flightradar24 feed.

You are correct about the settings made in the UI not being sticky between upgrades and reloading of the Docker containers.

Still, as a precaution, I have changed the default settings as per Flightradar24's request. Pushing the latest version of this repo to your feeders will switch the MLAT setting to off for the Flightradar24 service. This change may be reverted later, when we hopefully know more about the details of the issue.

Don't hesitate to reach out to me again if you have further questions.
