In iOS: Xcode allows keyboard layouts build for device specific such as iPad mini vs iPad Pro
iPad mini has iPhone type compact layout, iPad Pro has full featured desktop class keyboard layout.
For iPhone SE vs iPhone 8 Plus or in future iPhone X plus (rumored)
In android, I suppose we have similar options.

This will make developers create keyboards geared for device specific.

Currently, split keyboards are still explicitly unsupported for 3rd party keyboard layouts, afaik on iOS. We get a rectangular area at the bottom of the screen in which to play. While we could certainly split in that area, we lose much of the benefit of Apple's split keyboard - the app doesn't get any of the real estate back.

Also, there are couple of features in iOS, right handed, left handed in mobiles. Keyman doesn't support it yet.
