How to resolve Command failed due to unhandled error: No such file or directory (os error 2)?

Hi and thanks for cargo-edit, a core part of my daily rust toolchain!

I have no idea what I did to my local rust install, but now when I run cargo add, I get the message in the title of this issue, with no further information even when RUST_LOG=trace. What's the next step to figure out what specifically is broken?

❯ RUST_LOG=trace cargo add cfg-if

❯ cargo add --version
cargo-add 0.7.0
