On iOS device (iPhone 6s) user is unable to input Chinese characters into TextInput.

Actual vs. Expected behavior images here

Note: It seems like TextInput is grabbing input text before user has a chance to select correct characters.

Hand-writing Chinese characters into Kivy app on iOS device DOES work. Behavior images attached in Google user group.

When entering Chinese via hand-writing, back-spacing strokes doesn't work. (This makes more sense if you know how to use hand-written entry)

WORKAROUND: If the user installs the 搜狗/Sougou keyboard, Mandarin-pinyin input is not a problem in kivy app.
