On Arrival and Before Bible Study

  1. Turn on the television in the nursery - there will be a remote control on the shelf.

  2. Turn on the television in the parlour.

  3. From the balcony, turn on the Sequenced Power Controller.

  4. Plug in the organ camera. Turn on the spot light for the organ, set the switch to 2 (II). Turn on the back camera. Note the power button is on the camera's front, below and to the left of the lens, it is also recessed slightly:

  1. Plug in the pulpit and lectern cameras. Plug in the grand piano camera.

  2. Turn on the camera mount controller (unit on the desk with the joystick). Turning this on after the cameras ensures the cameras are available when the controller scans for them.

  3. Turn on the projector.

  4. Lower the projector screen.

  5. Log into the streaming computer.

  6. Open Chrome and use the shortcut to go to YouTube Studio. Open OBS. Open Integrated Presenter.

  7. Integrated presenter setup:

    • Connect to the switcher.
    • If using PIP Hymns and PIP Creeds, enable Condition 2 which is disabled by default:

    image

    • Notes about using PIP Hymns:
      • The Setup PIP step will change the scaling, masking and position of the PIP - so if you have set up something for an anthem, this will overwrite your settings. To avoid this, temporarily disable condition 2 to not run the PIP hymn right before an anthem.
      • PIP hymns will never set/change the PIP fill source, so before the start of the service you must manually select the PIP fill. Typically, this will be BACK though sometimes the organ camera is appropriate.
    • Open the slide presentation for the upcoming event. Bible study may have its own slides, or its slides may be at the beginning of the worship service slides.
    • Drag the key and slides windows to their corresponding tiles on the multiviewer. Use the 'f' key to full-size them within their tiles.
  8. After OBS and Integrated Presenter are running, check to make sure the video image from the program output displays in the OBS window. Move a camera or perform a transition to ensure OBS is processing video and not stuck on the last received frame. If there are any problems, or if an error dialog displays when starting OBS, the streaming computer will probably need to be re-booted to resolve the issue. Do this check well before the livestream is supposed to start.

  9. Have the sound operator send some sound to the livestream mix to make sure audio input from the sound system is making it to OBS. Check that the audio input in OBS has a 12.0 dB boost (this is visible above the VU meter for the DANTE 1/2 device).

Bible Study Preparation

  1. In Integrated Presenter, open the Aux Output and Advanced PIP Control views. Once pastor has logged into the tablet, in the Aux Output column, route PROJ to the projector to put Pastor's tablet output on the projector screen.
  • Also, the projector input source selector (Presentation Switcher/Scaler VP-440) will need to be set to HDMI1 to select pastor's tablet. Otherwise it will lock onto the streaming computer's signal as the streaming computer will likely have been powered on before pastor's tablet was plugged in. The inputs to the VP-440 are as follows:
    • HDMI_1 = centre floor
    • HDMI_2 = pulpit
    • HDMI_3 = balcony computer input
    • HDMI_4 = lectern
    • PCin1 = disconnected
    • PCin2 = disconnected

You can also use the VP440's web interface so that you don't have to move from your chair to access its front panel. In Chrome on the streaming computer, open a new tab and click the bookmark for the VP-440 (https://192.168.100.39). Select HDMI1 for pastor's tablet.

  1. The new Bible class slide template includes dynamic control layouts which will become available after taking the first slide.

  2. In YouTube Studio > Content > Live Upcoming Event, locate the upcoming live event for Bible Study. Click the "View Live in Control Room" icon which looks like this: ((o))

N.B.: Use all the default settings in YouTube Studio. The stream key, etc., are already set to match OBS' output.

N.B: Do NOT click "Go Live" yet. We have only one chance to start and end the event. Therefore, go live only after completing setup. Also, don't end an event until it has completed. Once ended, an event cannot be restarted.

  3. Use the Dynamic Controls panel to show the Title Start slide. Start streaming and recording after Sunday school classes are dismissed and when adult Bible class is about to begin. Make sure the video display is showing in the YouTube Studio preview (about 30 seconds after clicking "start streaming" in OBS). If no sound is being sent to the livestream mix prior to the prelude (normally the case), then YouTube Studio may display a warning about the audio bitrate being too low - this is OK - it will go away on its own a minute or so after audio is un-muted. Don't worry about extra footage at the start of the recording; video recordings are trimmed in an editor before being uploaded or distributed.

    • Switch the green light on. This indicates to Pastor that the stream is up.
  4. Once pastor has started the slide presentation on the tablet, go Live in YouTube Studio.

    • Dynamic Controls > select the PIP + Lectern layout
    • Turn the red light on which indicates that live audio + video are being streamed.

During Bible Study

  • If you need to remove the signal going to the Aux output (which feeds the projector), hold 'z' (set aux output source) and press 'b'.

  • Keep an eye on OBS - the bitrate should hover around 18000 Kb/s (our stream is converted to 1440p before going on the uplink). Also watch the chat feed in YouTube Studio -- look for reports about stream issues, especially if they originate from multiple viewers around the same time.

Between Bible Study and Service

  1. When Bible Study concludes, end the event in YouTube Studio. In OBS Studio, Stop Streaming and Stop Recording.

    • Turn off the red and green lights.
  2. Raise the projector screen and turn off the projector -- unless the projector will be used during service.

  3. Reconfigure Integrated Presenter: Turn off the Aux Output and Advanced PIP Location views.

  4. In YouTube Studio > Content > Live Upcoming Event, locate the upcoming live event for Worship Service. Click the "View Live in Control Room" icon which looks like this: ((o))

  5. 10 minutes before service, start streaming and start recording in OBS. Put the title slide on. When YouTube Studio indicates the stream is present, Go Live.

    • Turn on the green light, indicating to Pastor that the stream is up and sending the title slide + silence.
  6. Approximately 5 minutes before service, the organist/pianist will start playing a prelude. Switch to the organ/piano camera and the sound operator will bring the sound up.

    • Turn on the red light indicating that live video + audio are streaming.

During Service

  • The slideshow will preset and take most of the camera shots needed. During longer sections of the service, e.g. sermon and prayers, keep any eye on the time on shot counter. Dissolve / cut between cameras as appropriate (coordinate these transitions to coincide with breaks in pastor's speech).

  • Keep an eye on OBS - the bitrate should hover around 18000 Kb/s (our stream is converted to 1440p before going on the uplink). Also watch the chat feed in YouTube Studio -- look for reports about stream issues, especially if they originate from multiple viewers around the same time.

  • We avoid showing distribution of the sacrament, so there are two options:

Option A): If the order of service includes distribution hymns, show the hymn lyrics and use the organ camera as the PIP fill source. Refer to the Slider Creator Commands page for instructions on changing the fill source from BACK to ORGAN when creating the presentation.

On days where the distribution hymns are played on the grand piano, we want to avoid the frame catching communicants returning to their seats. There is a new camera installed above the grand piano which will show only the piano, and not catch anyone walking down the aisle. This camera feeds through the same HDMI network we use to route pastor's tablet during Bible study. Therefore: set the Presentation Switcher/Scaler VP-440 to HDMI4 and in Integrated Presenter, change the PIP fill source from ORGAN to PROJECTOR during the distribution hymns. Reminder: you can switch the VP-440 via its web interface for convenience.

or

Option B): End the service after announcements and before communion begins:

  • Set the Slide Control mode to Skip and advance to the last slide linking to the Holy Cross service video series. Take this slide to put it on air.
  • End the live event in YouTube studio. Stop recording and streaming in OBS.
  • Rewind in the slide deck to the previous point (this will be near the start of distribution), then use the slide control Take button.
  • Put slide control mode back to Drive, then continue through the remaining portion of the service normally. This is so attendees in the parlour can see the rest of the service.

After Service

  1. End the live event in YouTube Studio. In OBS, stop streaming and stop recording.

    • Turn off the red and green lights.
  2. The video recordings for Bible Study and Worship are located in the Videos folder. Copy the video files to OneDrive\Holy Cross Lutheran Church\Livestream Recordings

  3. Close Integrated Presenter, OBS, and Chrome. Lock the streaming computer (ctrl + alt + del => Lock) but do not log out or shut down.

  4. Initiate sequenced power down of the A/V equipment using the switch in the balcony. Switch off the camera controller joystick unit.

  5. Unplug the organ camera and turn off the spot light. Turn off the back camera - press and hold the power button for 2 seconds.

  6. Unplug the pulpit and lectern cameras.

  7. Process the chat logs from Bible Study and Service. Download the chat collector script.

    • Open any Linux command shell
    • Open a browser and go to YouTube, to the Holy Cross channel. Get the links to the Bible Study and Service. Note: it can take up to 24 hours after a stream is completed before the chat is displayed, so do this from home later in the day, or the next week.
    • For each link, invoke ./script.bash <video_link>
    • Email the .txt chat log files to the church office.

Streaming Computer Maintenance

  • If you get a disk space error when trying to copy the day's recordings from Videos to livestream-recordings, go into the livestream-recordings folder and into the Completed - videos uploaded to YouTube folder. Select a set of videos, right click and select Free up space. This will keep the videos on One Drive in the cloud, but remove them from local storage on C:.
