The installation steps are pretty straight forward but they are not complete, especially for beginners:

1 Installation Docs

I was able to get Listmonk up and running in 2minutes

Questions

  • How do we log in when the password is empty? e.g http://news.it-zt.at/ the pop up appears and disappears
  • How is the Media upload provider configured?
  • How is the SMTP server configured?

2 Issue #778

This issue outlines the major steps to deploy to your own server.

Questions

  • Any other considerations for the production environment?

Links to other issues can be added or I could update the installation guides once we have all the setups instructions

How is the Media upload provider configured?
How is the SMTP server configured?

These, and everything else, are on available on the admin UI that you see when you login. For example, with SMTP, you just have to copy-paste the config your SMTP host provides.

I used this guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAOBqgR9Yfo to set it up locally on port 9000. At 3:00 I got an error and had to make user listmonk a superuser via pgAdmin.

The issue I have now is that if you run it locally like this video shows, the site (localhost:9000) can't be accessed when your CMD/powershell window is closed. Unsubscribe links, view in browser, etc. also will not work for recipients because the URL starts off with "localhost:9000". Analytics (open tracking, etc.) didn't seem to work at all.

So I guess hosting it on a VPS is the way to go. But I can't find good instructions for that either.

This is the only guide I found https://yasoob.me/posts/setting-up-listmonk-opensource-newsletter-mailing/ which doesn't seem to cover this.

I used this guide to set up Sendy https://levelup.gitconnected.com/setting-up-your-own-bulk-mail-server-using-sendy-and-aws-20d05ee01362. I need something like that for Listmonk.

I'm thinking to download some of the Sendy files from Virtualmin, and then delete the folder and uninstall Virtualmin.
But then I checked https://listmonk.app/#download and it looks like both versions use localhost:9000.

I can't find any instructions for getting it setup at the equivalent of "sendy..com".

For Windows, you can look for tutorials for running an EXE as a background service. With the terminal window open, you're running the app in the foreground which, when you close the terminal, is killed.

And for linux we have to set it up as a service? Eg #843 ?
